So here's my reasons for all these picks, The starter is just whatever seemed like the edgiest one of each type, the grass/fire/water type coverage picks had a similar train of though behind them. The fossils are there because I always liked the idea of your rival getting the one you don't pick for extra variety and it spices up the team with a rare mon you don't see too much of. Scrafty is just there to be a tough bad guy pokémon because I'd want more of a jerk rival and finally Gumshoos is the obligatory route 1 shitmon and his lifelong bro.
