Why did you give Dawn her anime team but not Lucas? He should have a Magmortar like in his anime cameo and he fortunately also does have it in one of his BDSP teams as well

Stop lying on the internet, Dawn is paired with Piplup most of time and the fact they made it so Dawn and Piplup's team is almost exactly like the team she has in her most famous incarnation (anime Dawn) tells us enough

You're once again using the anime as an example to prove something that has no relation to the anime at all. Literally the character designer for Dawn paired her with Turtwig, and even Masters uses that interpretation. And if you want to go off of official art, she's still almost never paired with Piplup. In fact she's been paired with Infernape over Piplup or Empoleon. Dawn with Piplup is only an anime and manga thing, and they gave her a Piplup in the anime because it was the most marketable Pokémon from Sinnoh and not because it made any particular sense for her.

Also, if you want to go by the anime's interpretation, let me remind you that Barry has an Empoleon in the anime. Which means it's impossible for game!Dawn to have Piplup as well going by your logic. This helps my argument even further as it means Dawn can either have Chimchar or Turtwig, and the latter is already supported by two sources, including her own character designer

In general I think Turtwig suits Dawn the best. Since she's a reserved kind of character in the games if you pick Lucas as the protag and Piplup is just way too energetic for her. It suits her anime version because she's primarily a Coordinator. But in the games, Piplup suits Barry the best. That, or Chimchar
