luvdisc and alomomola have no business both existing while not being part of the same evo line.
Same with tauros and boufallant. either make them look more distinct or make them related.

My headcanon is that Luvdisc DOES evolve into Alomomola, but the evolution method just hasn't been revealed yet, similar to how Pichu and other babymons weren't "discovered" until gen 2

It could be anything like a new stone, held item or move that could be introduced in a future game to link the two (maybe GF will make it official if there ends up being a BW remake for instance)

I feel the same way about Dunsparce and Drampa

Luvdisc exists as a way to get heart scales. They wanted to to tie a valuable resource to a pokemon and didnt feel like making it usable in combat (which is a stupid decision because there are like 2 ways to interact with pokemon in gen 3)
Alomomola exists as a pokemon adaptation of a sunfish, down to the stat line. Passive as hell, completely incapable of defending itself, and predators dont bother with it because it's just too big and fat to be worth the effort. As fun as it is adapting wildlife into videogame terms is though, alomomola isnt transformative enough to be interesting.
In short, they're unrelated because their conceptions are unrelated, not because of laziness.

Blah blah blah. Alomomola was clearly designed ad a Luvdisc evolution and then they scrapped the connection once they took that dumb decision of not having cross-get evolutions in Unova.

Same happened with Dunsparce and Drampa.

It was probably designed to be, but 5 gen had a stupid idea that their dex couldn't have pokemons from other genes or be related to other evolution lines, so that's it!

Fun fact: Dragonite actually looked more like its pre-evos in the original sprites. For some reason they gradually phased out the features they actually shared (dratini even had the same chest ridges as nite).
