Do you think they should retcon Charmander's flame going out being fatal? It makes me uncomfortable.

I forgot about the flame on its tail. Not completely forgotten (if I was asked to draw it I would include the iconic flame on its tail), but I forgot how important it is to the design and how its actively being fueled to burn instead of just being a part of Charmander. I blame the current 3D models that made it an attached lump with moving textures.

They already did retcon it. It's not that the flame going out causes him to die, it's that the flame is a visual representation of how healthy he is, and it will shine brightly even in the rain, as long as he's healthy.

Even back in gen 1, they made it pretty clear the fire still "burns" even if the flames are put out. It just dies in a situation where the entire biology behind the burning stops working, not if it gets a bit wet.

Probably what people have said, with the fire being more like a healthy status.
If it goes out, they could probably just reignite it, but it's probably uncomfortable to have it put out. Like gas from a stove without a spark.
Just head canon crap.

But there's plenty of fucked up pokemon things.
Like Spoink. Pokemon that are hotter than the sun, Burns that burn for eternity, dead children in the woods, poisons that just rot you away.
