Natures and abilities gave pokemon life and individuality. It gave you the feeling that no two pokemon were the same (which is a message the games have always tried to convey) and gen 3 underlined that.

You can do that without impacting the gameplay. Let's Go's size and weight, for example, is a good way to give each pokemon some individuality without making some way more powerful than others.

I disagree. Half of the fun of playing this game is the hunt. It was made by a fucking bug collector for fucks sake.

Stopped reading right there. Abilities give battles another layer and would be boring without abilities. If you disagree go play gens 1 and 2 then see how boring that gets after a few hours.

It's more and more easier to have Pokémon with the right everything over time: abilities via breeding and the introduction of ability capsules/patches, natures via Synchronize/breeding, IVs via bottle caps, and EVs are made easier to optimize each generation.
To the point of Sword and Shield in which you can literally catch any wild Pokémon with shit stats and somehow make it good with the best EVs, IVs, nature and ability.

Liking gen 1 or 2 is entirely subjective for other reasons but as long as we're talking actual battles they're by far the worst in the franchise and that's a fact. IVs barely make any difference and EVs can just be maxed everywhere so every Pokémon used competitively has the same stats, and probably the same movesets since the move distribution was terrible as well.

Catching pokemon isn't as fun as it used to be bros. There's always that nagging thought in the back of my head that everything I catch throughout the game is just a temporary tool to get me to the end where I can actually start getting the real ones. Battling other players online is a natural progression after you beat the game. Especially now that they're so easy it's the only place to find any challenge. But that random Abra I caught on route 15 is only gonna get slaughtered if I try and use him unless I devote alot of time to fix him. Why bother when I can get a new one ready to fuck faces in an hour or 2 of spinning in front of a daycare. Why can't the IVs go away, and the ability changing items be more accessable. Why can't I set a pokemon with a training style or some shit that would funnel EVs into a stat instead of putting the game on hold for an hour and genociding level 2 pidgeys? Why I gotta slog through 50 boring battle tower fights or play baby's first eugenics simulator instead of just properly training my pokemon over the course of the game? It just makes everything I did in the main game feel pointless. Like none of it mattered in the end.

I just wanna catch a pokemon in my pokemon catching game and actually use it where it matters, ya know?

No shit which is why thy are shit. It would have been better if just left as some fluff text and not a game mechanic. If you're just doing a normal run a mon with a shitty nature and bad IVs can be more of a hindrance.
And in competitive get ready to breed 500 shitty mons and hatch them and then release thousands into the wild.
The anime of all things seemed to realize this as the whole thing with Paul the rival at the time was how he catches Pokemon for natures and IVs and releases shit ones. In universe he is treated as a jerk and asshole for this BUT he is an expy of a fan that only exists due to GF's shitty implementation of natures and shitty secret stats.

Also you are insane if you say thy do not make a difference. In SoulSilver I used an action replay on my team at the time and most of my team's stats rose by 5-10 points just for having better Ivs as its a value from 0-31 which is a pretty big spread.

Its a shitty system and your reply to that anon is basically pointing out that GF is trying to patch their own shitty system when it should have never been in the first place.

From an RPG perspective, things like natures and abilities kind of made them seem more unique. Same for shinies. You have your barebones Staryu or a Staryu who is a bit calm and another who is more adamant etc. I can see why it would be a pain trying to get the "ideal" one, but a bigger thing to complain about for an "ideal" mon would be IVs or whatever. I don't do any kind of competitive, I just get into the games and play them without going full autismo.

Honestly, I think sometimes having a Pokémon with a suboptimal ability can be fun. I had a Crabominable with Hyper Cutter in Ultra Sun and whilst Iron Fist Is the better ability it did come in handy quite a few times.

Suboptimal natures can be cancer, especially if they’re directly against the dominant attack attack or speed. Sometimes though, stuff like “it’s worse attack is buffed but one of its defenders suffer” just isn’t something to worry about for me. In fact, it just makes me elated when I get a good nature. Pokémon is so easy that detrimental factors rarely matter that much.

At most, an average person will worry about abilities in the specific instance of a Pokemon with an objectively superior ability choice, like Huge Power Marill. Otherwise, it's a non-issue and might be fun to work with.
Your problem is that you grew up and became too obsessed with optimizing your team, so you fret over every little detail instead of unwinding, relaxing and having fun with it.

unless you're playing competitive (and for that, methods for optimizing chances of getting certain abilities/ivs/natures in pokemon exist, also gen 8 makes this piss easy) why do you give a shit about nature? if you're not planning on speedrunning the game or making a challenge you can beat the game with pokemon with terrible ev spreads, shit ivs and the less optimal natures. you can literally just catch pokemon and have fun.
