Like 99.9% chance real unless someone tore apart a cartridge to shove a fake one in. You can try connecting it to a Pokewalker to be 100% sure, they aren't hard to import from Japan and they aren't region-locked.

I appreciate that input, but fakes are playable. There is quite the market for fakes too. Many you can save and even connect to the gts.
Some fakes you can’t get past the 6th gym with out it crashing.

Gameplay and use is no tell if it is real or not.

Probably real, the fake one's usually fail the light test and are just solid grey like other ds cartages.
Another good way to tell is run your nail across the back on the Nintendo symbol.
Fakes generally have a much more intense engraving where your nail will get stuck in grooves, where as real ones you can feel the grooves but it doesn't really stop your finger from moving. Can do that test with a game you know is real as well.

The location of the Nintendo on the back is also not middle which suggests real.

I think what was catching me up was I couldn’t identify the infrared at first. In better light I can see it.

I think I lucked out and got a cheap copy of as. Been looking on eBay for awhile and these things are like 100$+ cartridge only.

Looks to be authentic. Fakes usually aren't in IR transparent plastic, don't contain an ID transceiver, and don't work with PokeWalkers.

Nice Cosmos Black OG 3DS. I've got that and the Galaxy Style New XL, and have been using the OG lately because it's the same size as a DS Lite and fits better in pockets.

If you're getting a fake anyway, you'd do better to spend just $15 and get an R4 card. If you don't like that there's a menu it boots into first, it has an option to auto-load the last used ROM unless you hold select or some shit.

Little known fact: The legit cartridges have impact resistant plastics. Just throw it against some concrete and if it breaks it was fake, and if it was real then no damage will be done.
