Post Split: All types have special and physical moves so a Pokemon with coverage options only needs to use one offensive stat. Most Pokemon have similar SpD and Def outside of a few exceptions, so there's functionally no difference in hitting a Pokemon with a physical or special move, meaning there's no reason for a Pokemon to have attacks from its weaker stat unless its movepool is shit.
This could be solved having some moves that use get power from both the physical and special stat.
However, Phys/Spec split wasn't bad, it just fucked over as many Pokemon as it helped. Movepool Favoritism is a far worse problem.
