>>48758646Here's the thing about Rock and Ice in four parts:
In gen 2, the addition of Steel with it being super effective against those two typings already wasn't bad enough, but then you add the fact that the Dark typing was also added. Why did I mentioned Dark along with Steel if it didn't have an advantage against Rock or Ice? It was also weak to Fighting, which was super effective against Rock and Ice. These two new typings being weak to Fighting led to increased prevalence of Fighting-type Pokemon and Fighting-type moves.
It then got worse in gen 6 with the new (and prominent) Fairy typing being both weak to AND resisted by Steel, giving even more of an incentive to use Steel-type Pokemon and Steel-type moves, which in turn led to more prevalence of Fighting type Pokemon and moves of that typing being used.
Now comes gen 8 and the increased distribution of Close Combat. Nothing else is needed to be said for this.
The only "buff" that happened was to Rock where Sandstorm gave a 50% increase to Special Defense for Rock-type Pokemon. Rock and Ice are long overdue for buffs, Ice Rider Calyrex? Galarian Darmanitan? Tyranitar with Sandstream? Rhyperior with Solid Rock? Okay, but what about... oh I don't know, all the other Pokemon with the Rock or Ice typings?
