In other words, bitching about Corviknight very clearly shows you are talking retarded shit. There is only so many ways you can do animal+element before it gets *extremely obviously* derivative, and "taxonomically uncertain monster" very dramatically shrinks this.
Pokemon could not have lasted long without leaning on more human concepts, and had them present from day one. It's become a basic assumption because they have the detail to get away with that, and it's an easy way to use that detail, so they keep doing it.
"Animals with jobs" is not the problem. "Design by committee" and "understaffed trainwreck" are the problem. They can either correct the 3d shift issues by hiring more people, or get design elegance by going back to a handful of people honing the general body structures.
But those are fundamentally opposite problems, you need fewer artists to get the visual "style" back on track, but you need more artists to handle the accretion of designs. The old audience *cannot* be pleased in the long run because doing so involves contradictory pressures.
To say nothing of the fact that Game Freak ascribes to the "rolling demographic" philosophy of franchise longevity, where their target audience is not loyal customers of old generations, but new people in the original demographic.
