I seriously doubt this game will be as enjoyable as I'm hoping it will, but I'm still infinitely more excited for it than I ever was for BDSP. Hell, the Pokemon Company themselves must have known this would be the case for a lot of people, because they chose to announce Legends immediately afterwards.
I could almost hear them saying 'Look, we all know BDSP looks like shit, but here: something actually new and interesting so you don't check out altogether!'

For the pokemon, there are pokemon in the game are there not? This is a better option than SWSH2, at least its different. And theres nothing other than rhe graphics pointing to this game being bad, theyve already shown to put more effort into it than SWSH by remaking models and adding animations

So you're interested in the one thing they're attempting to improve upon, that's understandable but for a lot of people they want a traditional JRPG. That having been said, I have a feeling you'll be disappointed because despite capturing looking like the most fleshed out mechanic it still looks a bit undercooked. Personally I blame the open world bullshit but that's probably just my bias against that design philosophy.

You have 20 years of traditional jrpgs and hundreds of other series with the same concept. GF have just been releasing bad game after bad game and have not built upon the formula in ages. Lets at least have something new. Its not open world and having open areas makes the game a lot more fun

Maybe it's playing those other JRPGs that makes me wish Pokemon was more like them. I always bring up Bravely Default or Xenoblade 2 as recent examples, and Pokemon is currently not living up to the standards of either so I'm still miffed. The worst part is I sometimes see a good idea or two and they just don't go anywhere with it or fuck it up somehow. Believe me, I spend a lot of time thinking about game design, and ever since Link to the Past I get pissed when they throw out a perfectly good game design concept and take things in a different direction.

What overlap is there between these games? Hell, SMT is closer to yokai watch with how it's combat system works.

The only connection I can think of is arceus being god. And you know, beating the shit out of god is the whole point of shin megami.

Honestly the concept looks good enough, so it's not a problem of the direction. It's a problem of Gamefreak and lack of development. If they pushed the release day back a year and actually worked to make the game non barren then it could be cool. The latest trailer for this game due to come out in like 4 months look like alpha shit.

I've watch about 30 hours worth of V between a couple people at this point, and so far I haven't seen alot of overlap between these games at all.

Arceus has towns and villages ans general NPC interactions
V has platforming and voice acting
The combat as I mentioned is completely different.

There's so little overlap.

Jokes aside, I'm obviously not saying Pokemon and SMT are the same exact games, however the point I'm trying to make is that the games are still similar in the respect that SMT is another game of a similar genre and what can be done when being worked on by a team that cares and are given ample time to complete.
