>>48770141I actually really loved Sun and Moon. I know the word gets tossed around to the point of meaninglessness, but it felt like it had soul. The emphasis on cohabitation with nature and Pokemon cooperating in wild double battles were really great flavor that meshed with the setting and gave it a lot of character. Sure there was a lot of little things about it that were obnoxious, but it at least felt like someone on the design team gave a fuck.
That and the story was kinda harrowing for a kid's game. Yeah sure, in gen 3, 4, and 6 the bad team were all gonna kill everyone, but its destruction on such a massive scale that it doesn't hit quite as hard. SuMo really sucker punched me with the whole 'dealing with parental neglect and abuse' sub-story. Add in truly eldritch Pokemon from another dimension and an aborted freak clone that was created to fight them, and there's some really strong stuff in there I consider on par with ye old days of Pokemon where there was more violence and unintentionally creepy shit. There was a ton of potential that just didn't get exploited as much as I would have liked.
At the end of the day it felt like a game someone made, instead of a product someone shat out. LGPE was 'fine' but I was very aware I was consuming a product the whole time with how sanitized it felt. And SwSh was just miserable, though I guess I can't fault it for being a realistic take on Britian in that respect. BDSP though actually broke me. I think this will be the first time I don't even finish a game in a release cycle. Glad I didn't pay for it.
