Sadly, the only one that took a departure from the old formula was Gen 5 (though the Dex had a lot of Gen 1 knockoffs) and those games sold poorly, which is why we've had KANTOOO pandering every since.

It did to a greater extent than the others Gens. Completing the Dex actually felt fresh unlike with Gen 2, 4, or 6 where older Pokemon are more common than the newer ones.

Emerald was my first game and favorite in the series, but you have to admit that Gold/Silver was the peak. 2 regions, fight with Red, simple Pokemon designs without all the "stripes and spikes" crap.

In any case gen 3 was soulful because it added a lot of mechanics I liked. Replaying it years later (which was years ago) it was kind of shit though

My feeling is opposite. I liked the games but disliked the new features. I started with Gen II and liked the simpler system without abilities and natures and I was upset I couldn't transfer Pokemon to Gen III. The Gen III graphics also seemed kind of half-baked. However, I liked the Hoenn itself and the nature theming. I really liked the Whirl Islands in Johto, so also liked the Diving feature, Seafloor Cavern and Cave of Origin in Hoenn too. There was so much exploration and the Regi puzzle was so interesting to me at the time. Mt. Coronet in Sinnoh was also cool the first time around.

It beat Emerald, but ORAS scored better than BDSP. I don't care that much for what reviewers say though, since for me Emerald is better than ORAS and Platinum is muchbetter than BDSP.

So they can make extra cash to make up for the costs of developing Ruby and Sapphire rather than allowing you to transfer Pokemon from Gen 2. Did anyone really want to visit Kanto the third time in a row? The only new places were the Sevii Islands. I guess it worked out in the end because I remember reading that if it wasn't for the work on the Wireless Adapter, the DS itself may not have had Wifi compatibility.

To clarify, what I mean is that if they focused their attention towards making a workaround to transfer Pokemon from Gen 2 then we may not have had Wifi on the DS.

It would've been pretty much impossible considering how much they overhauled how Pokemon are programmed. People wouldn't have minded if you could catch most of the important mons between Ruby and Sapphire but all you could catch for most of the game was New Mons and some old ones (usually Kanto), that is the real sin imo.

Before that you only had access to 30% of the Kanto Pokemon and 20% of the Johto Pokemon and your old Pokemon were stuck in the GB/GBC. I don't mind the Dex itself however. I can easily replay RS with three or four times with different well-rounded teams though, which is not true for any Sinnoh game unless I'm playing Platinum.
