Never played this gen. Are they worth getting?
I didn't buy SWSH for obvious reasons but these ones at least don't have the shit tier n64 overworld graphics and haven't removed all old Pokemon, so maybe there is hope?

it just isn't for me. i don't like the boost system that makes your pokemon broken (and the battles sluggishly slow). glad if you like it but i preferred to mod it away and play without. same for exp share

when your pokemon has high happiness/affection, it gets boost in battles and you get tiny messages how it is "eager to fight" etc.

those anons are referring to the "affection/friendship" mechanic - affection (amie) and friendship used to be two different things and now they're rolled into one.
Basically, walking pokemon, winning contests, giving them massages etc. will increase the amount of affection your pokemon has, which gives you a huge advantage in battle (sometimes you dodge moves, land more critical hits, endure moves instead of fainting)

DP has one of the worst encounter tables in the series. The random trainers use the same pool of shitmon up until the ass end of the game. The gyms and bosses are kinda challenging but if it's not a boss fight you're likely going to be fighting a starly, or a bidoof, or some other early route shitmon. I hear the BDSP postgame is decent, and you can catch Platinum's roster in the underground, but neither of these perks do a thing about the boring enemies you'll fight in the 20-ish hour main story.
