What the fuck, were they always so expensive? I swear I saw Serena for a reasonable price a few years ago, I almost bought but decided against it because I had other priorities. Did they go up in price so much, or am I misremembering this?

$100-200 is pretty much the norm for the artfx series; who was $125 that you saw, anon?
in general, they've retailed on the lower end of around $100 from the start, but some of the characters in the line like rosa are easily $300 or higher currently. sorry for 'tism, but good quality figures are honestly just pretty expensive these days.

I get that, that's why I looked up the current ones.

GSC has their Pop Up Parade series, I bought Junko for 30 goddamn bucks and she looks as good as any of those ARTFX J figs.

that's your first issue, overpriced and won't arrive for months after the release anyways.
she's listed as 9800 JPY which is like $85, check around on amiami in case someone drops their preorder within the next few months. if not, you can usually find nips auctioning them for cheaper shortly after release on yahoo japan

side note, POPs have shitty bases and are only a step above prizes, koto may be a mid-tier company at best but the pokeball bases are cute. quality aside, demand is really what drives the prices up as they never, ever do rereleases like GSC does.

They also cost a couple of McDonald's lunches. Not saying they're the best around, just an example of good value.
