I moreso go by loose guidelines, rather than hard rules, but this is what I usually generally go by

I can never stomach any legendary of any kind in a team, it goes back to gen 1 where all the dweebs would throw mewtwo and zapdos in their team

Puesdos are fine though, theyre hard earnt and usually a slog to get in a gameplay team

I could understand not liking Mewtwo in teams, since Mewtwo was Ubers, back in Gen 1. Something like Zapdos is a lot less jarring, imo, because Zapdos is pretty much in the same tier as Pokemon like Exeggutor, Alazakam and Lapras. Same with Azelf, in Gen 4

think its more to do with the fact that you get it in its finished state, you aint raising/training a zapdos its just instantly powerful, same with azelf, atleast with like a t-tar or garchamp you have a useless pokemon you have to level up for a long time

I think of non-Uber legendaries, such as Azelf and Zapdos, or whatever, as being rewards for players who manage to catch these Pokemon with very-low capture-rates. While in comparison, most psuedos have a low catch-rate, but not nearly to the extent of legendaries

Completely stopped when the newest gen and megas etc dropped, looks like pokemon online is gone now and its all showdown but back in the day Im sure pokemon online was more competitive than showdown

pseudos' usually have rare spawn rates in very specific hard to find places and then you have something that is useless for another 30-40 levels, whereas zapdos etc its just masterball- or a bunch of ultras, no real challenge.

Raikou etc I will accept cause those cunts run away, especially in gen 2, was a legitimate challenge to catch

pretty much none, I just use what I want. never use box legendaries though, makes it a little too easy

I do try to use at least 1-2 pokemon I've never used before any time I replay something though
