EXP Share is fine, you dont outlevel E4 at all. Its nice QoL.
only forced Amie sucks, but casual players will still be wiping to E4 even with Amie, unless they are using X items on an OP pokemon (the legendary or Garchomp)

When people say gimped contests I don’t think you actually played the game. The contests are the same it’s just streamlined. There’s still the visual, dance, and move portion but it’s all been mixed into one session. The visual part is at the very beginning with the hearts, then the dance which causes the rhythm game and you can use a move during the round which is graded on how effective it is. I’m actually having a ton of fun with it because getting constant Brilliance on the rhythm especially in the later ranks is surprisingly difficult. And the ball capsules are way more important now. Did you guys just look at some YouTube video with no context and just rolled with your narrative?

It's that you're FORCED into using the EXP Share.
Playing with the EXP Share here is the exact same as the exp share in gen 6 and 7 toggled on. Meaning there is no factual reason to disable the ability to toggle it. The devs fucking went out of their way to give LESS agency to the player for no good reason at all.

Part of me thinks Masuda is shit-testing the long time fans like an annoying spiteful woman, just to see what he can get away with.

Affection is tied to Happiness so just through battling and NEVER walking with your Pokemon you will start seeing Amie stuff at Gym 3 and by Gym 4-5 your whole team will be landing critical hits 1/4 times and surviving on 1 HP.
