Giratina tries too hard to be edgy but is actually lame. All the gen 4 movies are slow and boring to watch. Cyrus is a mediocre antagonist. Heatran is ugly. DP was when Ash lost the most out of any season due to total retardation and the continuity starting to fall apart, and it's hard to watch.
People like gen 4 because they were either born during/after the original pokemania and missed it, and/or they're coomers and they coom to Dawn/Cynthia/Gardevoir/Lopunny/Lucario/Glaceon/your mom/etc.
Gen 4 was remembered fondly because the union room was unique for the time and also allowed pedos to VC children directly through the DS.
