Sinnoh E4 was always better than gens 1-3 E4 .. only Unova E4 (maybe) gave them any competition

Haven't played BDSP, but Gen 4 Cynthia was toppled as early as B2W2 by Iris in terms of difficulty. Several of the other later champions are harder as well.
Spiritomb is easy setup fodder in Gen 4, Iris' Hydreigon is not.

No, Hydreigon is is just straight up a harder mon to set up on than Spiritomb, so doing setup sweeps on Cynthia is easier.
The equipped items is also a big difference maker. Gen 4 Cynthia is easier than BW2 Iris and it isn't even that close.
That doesn't necessarily make Iris "hard" but Gen 4 Cynthia is much easier than people make her out to be.
