I thought SM was a moderate step up from XY but I've yet to play USUM, mostly cause I've heard it's pretty much a "fixed" version split into two, not a proper sequel like B2W2

Ultra Chicken design was worse.
They removed the Mallow bone gag if I recall.
Battle Agency was a fucking joke. Rental system was horrendous, especially requiring other players. Worst part is they implemented rentals but didn't add them to the Battle Tree.

Besides that yeah it was a big improvement over SM and the last good game in the main series.

I'm glad more and more people are coming around to these games, they're an improvement over SM in every way besides story. I also don't see why people say they added so little, they're pretty par for the course for expansions; Platinum and to some degree Emerald were definitely exceptions, not the norm. I do agree gen 7 in general are quite flawed, but I still like them enough to consider them just above average.

It really didn't. No post-game Gyms. Still no access to the volcano, lighthouse, Brooklet spring, Poni spring, golf cause or the Moone/Sunne ruins. No explorable sea routes. Festival Plaza is still a disaster, and it absolutely butchered the story.

If anything, we weren't critical enough. USUM will forever be a stain to my Gen 6 experience.

I'm excited to play it again when I finish my BDSP run. I stopped halfway through my first playthrough because I got burned out on Pokémon for a while, then later rushed the back half to farm legendaries when Home was released.

I dumped a lot of hours into team-building in Moon. The Battle Tree and online (minus Lando and Lele) were fun as fuck.

I hated SM but I hated USUM even more. I was basically just playing the exact same game again after I swore that I would never play SM ever again. Postgame was still shit, battle agency is the saddest piece of pokemon content that has ever existed and I hate myself for even believing that gamefreak could just copypaste the battle factory mechanics, mantine surfing is NOT fun, photoshit is NOT fun, rainbow rocket is just a shitty boss rush wooooooo that doesn't matter because you're overleveled and that's fucking it. Pirated the game and I still felt ripped off
SM meanwhile had a better plot and more soulful trials, so I still think that it's the better game since I don't give a single shit about USUM's crappy postgame "content"

Original release had things like vacant lots in towns where something was obviously supposed to go.

Lusamine herself can be easily beaten if you have the right strategy, retard. This applies to every pokemon or trainer in any game. For someone who's going in blind, there is a high possibility that U Nevrozma can catch them off guard and decimate their team. That's more than what you can say for bosses in other pokemon games where you can cheese them even with the shittiest pokemon

You literally do get less cutscenes and in general the game is faster. For example you get your starter much earlier and also don't have to sit through a long cutscene for it like in SM. And you only have to use Mantine Surf once. Plus the Hau champion fight actually gives character dimension to Hau, and you can always battle Kukui with original music in title defense

How is it objectively more boring? The Photo club also gives life to your pokemon the same way following pokemon gives life to the overworld. And it's not forced fag, you only have to sit through the tutorial if you enter the Photo Club.

Do you know what fucking pissed me off? The overworld was EXACTLY the same as the original sun/moon EXCEPT for route 1 which they added flowers. They made fucking sure to show off route 1 in every fucking trailer of USUM so people would constantly speculate "OH MAN HOW DIFFERENT WILL THE OVERWORLD BE, THERE COULD BE TONS OF CHANGES TO THE WHOLE OVERWORLD!"

Then there was the deceitfully barren ultramegalopolis and pikachu valley. Fucking deceitful scumbags.

I don’t give much of a fuck about the story so everything USUM did was a direct upgrade over SM (even if Lusamine was better written in the latter) my main gripe with gen 7 is the rotom dex, neutered map on the second screen and the festival plaza. The postgame content was solid, battle tree was good, ultra wormholes were fun, manatine surfing was also fun. Personally would have liked to see rematches with rivals, captains, kahunas and other strong trainers outside of the battle tree but as far as 3DS games go it’s a 7/10 for me

By being an actual game, for one. Even with all of the good things ORAS had, it's still one of the worst games. SM and by extension USUM failed to build off of anything Gen 6 added, so that automatically puts it below even them.

It does have the full Dex though, as proven by the fact that you can get all the pokemon in the game.

I would cut them some slack, they did try their hardest to salvage the trainwreck mess that was Gen 6. I give it props for even trying to do that. Sadly, Gen 6 still remains the worst even after that so I'm not sure it it matters in the long run.

Trying to salvage a piece of shit with diarrhea on top does not make diarrhea better. Gen 6 was bottom of the barrel garbage, all they had to do was take what they added on that foundation and make an actually good game on top of it, but instead they made a shitty game with an even worse foundation that removed countless features and staple mechanics, the full Pokedex being one of them.

That was Z's job, not SM. Not SM's fault that even GF thought Kalos was way too shitty too even salvage so they decided to not do a Z version and instead put their priorities on the god awful Hoenn remakes. Gen 7 tried to be a little more thoughtful by giving refuge to Zygarde and bringing back Megas but they realized that Gen 6 was way too shitty to be saved and focused on it's own thing, and partially succeed by adding a breath of fresh air to the franchise at least.

How? It added Trials, Totems, Ultra Beasts and regional forms among other things. Those are probably the most creative things in pokemon in years and miles miles better than whatever Gen 6 was trying to do. It tried shaking up the formula, which was absolutely necessary after Gen 6's forgettable formulaic garbage. Team Skull blows the shit out of Flare. Could these new features have been executed better? Yes, without a doubt. But as they are, they were still amazing for doing something new and fuck Game freak for throwing it out the window in SWSH, but I'm glad that at least Legends is bringing some of it back.

Unironically yes. Totems are the best new feature in the series in a long time. Having strong pokemon be the bosses of the game is amazing, and I'd take that anyday over shitty bland coombait gym leaders
