Birch is only remembered because of his daughter, but on his own both him/Elm were overshadowed & forgotten.

Juniper is great, and becomes even better when paired with Fennel.

Wicke proved that a character has to actually be relevant and get a decent amount of screentime for people to care about them, even if they have a good design. Even XY Hex Maniac gets a decent amount of fanservice in XY with the spooky sidequests and her special pairing the Fairy Tale Girl Trainer class (and I'm pretty sure there's one route near the haunted house with nothing but Hex Maniac trainers lol). Remember before SunMoon dropped everyone was losing their mind over Wicke, but when the game dropped and people saw that she was basically irrelevant, and all the hype and Wicke fanart stopped. The Pokemon Professors in comparison are literally only relevant for the first few minutes of any Pokemon game, which is why artists basically pretend they don't exist (Professor Ivy is the exception because she is sexy af)

But Juniper was relevant throughout the game, tho. It's just that Juniper had too much competiton. The same region had Hilda, Rosa, Bianca, Elesa, Skyla, Roxie and even Cynthia and many more waifus returning. Hex maniac was a trainer npc that struck luck with the Moomoo milk meme and Tomoko timing. Plus, her only competition was Serena.

I didn't play BW but isn't the only time you see Juniper at the beginning and whenever she calls you on the Xtransceiver throughout the game? I suppose that's more exposure than most professors but still

She shows up at gate before Nimbasa City to chat and then at the Chargestone Cave with Bianca to research Klink and even had a confrontation with N. She shows up at Nacrene City with her father to give you the Dark/Light stone. She last shows up in Opelucid City to give you a masterball.

Oh well...I guess Juniper's bland design is why she gets no fanart. So much for "first female professor". I guess Cynthia is memorable because she a tough trainer as well.
Anyway, this just reminded me that Sonia got the most amount of screentime and interaction of any professor. Actually, Sword and Shield gave more lore and interaction with Gym Leaders and professor than any other game in the franchise so far
