Gengar and Alakazam are also staples since gen 1. Even nerfing them with abilities and similar mons won't knock them back.

You have one turn to give it a status that doesn't help or else it's always healing itself. Hope you're running knock off+heal pulse. Then it only has two weakness and it's very easy to predict both of them so playing around that is easy and thanks to good phys def bulk from ground type it can afford switch ins and avoids hazards except for sr. Then it gets a great movepool that compliments it's stat pool immensely.
Which is a long way of saying having a dedicated ability and item isn't that bad of a sacrifice considering the payoff

gliscor is just immune to power creep. his stats, ability, typing, and movepool are all perfectly tuned. He's functionally complete. Tyranitar and magnezone are in a similar position. They're just unmatched in their niche.

Poison heal is great on almost anything that isn't a complete shitmon, Gliscor it's literally discount Lando-T in Stats. Now imagine Lando-T with Poison Heal.

used Gliscor in my BDSP run and it easily carried the entire game. Before it evolved, Acrobatics and Bulldoze was just lighting fools up left and right.
