I agree to an extent. DP sucks, BDSP is mediocre, and Platinum is good. None of the Sinnoh games are amazing though.

Love all 3. Don’t care if that makes people seethe, I loved DP on release cause they had loads of things I really wanted from the series

They were just generally extremely comfy games like I didn’t even notice the poor Pokémon variety or slow speed at first cause I was still young enough (like 13) that I didn’t really get bothered by details like that.

As a kid, the tropical setting, environmentalism platitudes, and fucking trumpets of Hoenn bothered the shit out of me. I enjoyed DP for bringing the series back to the near-future aesthetic of gen 1.
Of all the regions, Sinnoh feels most like gen 1.

I think that was the point. DP were released in 2006 as an ode to Kanto. That's why the Regional Dex was so small (151) and the region was rather insipid (though not quite to the same extent as Kanto, since it still has varied climates and Mt. Coronet). Kanto lacks in Ghost and Dragon types and DP Sinnoh lacks in Fire, Ice, Electric, and Rock types.

I played through Sinnoh when I was in Middle School too but it's hard to ignore the fact that the Pokemon selection really was terrible and the games were abysmally slow even when compared to the prior Gens. From the surfing speed to the saving delays to the slow battles, it really does add up. It's particularly noticeable when you play a Gen 5 game and then go back to a Gen 4 game.
