I've never understood why dexxers are so obsessed with graphics when it comes to Pokémon, but when other Nintendo games have mediocre graphics compared to the competition, they become extremely condescending (ahem, Bayonetta 3, Three Houses). It's as if they insist on nitpick Pokémon out of sheer hatred and personal whim.

I understand the frustration that some have for the lack of the national pokédex, "animations" or because perhaps they want the saga to transform into an FF and lose the traditional turn-based combat component. It clouds their judgment and makes them hate everything in a pathological way.

But Pokémon has always been a simple adventure where with any pokémon team of hundreds available, you can make your own way through a region and become the strongest. With a clear design and combat mechanics that are simple to digest, but difficult to master at advanced levels.
It's the adventure and starting from 0 to become the king, which has always been satisfactory with each title. And it's something that people underestimate about this saga.

They add mechanics while deleting others, so no real progress is made. Content regresses as the dungeons, story and postgame become shorter and simpler. The tech upgrades from the previous entry, but much less so than other series, making them progressively worse relative to their competition. Or they just outright regress like BDSP. If we were to use the same yardstick that Pokémon detractors always use, games like Three Houses don't take advantage of even 50% of the optimal Switch capacity. According to them, if a game doesn't look minimal like BoTW, then it sucks! (or at least, that's the same argument with Pokémon always)

But even so, we know that it's considered a great Switch exclusive, but that same community that criticizes Pokémon never applied the same for FE or other Nintendo games that have been mediocre in the technical section. Because we know that the criticism doesn't lie in the graphics, but in false fans who don't appreciate the essence of Pokémon and immaturely demand that it be something that it has never been.

They don't condemn the modern games because they are bad (because like Pokémon games they are fun), but simply because they are not what they want them to be.

I have been in this fandom for many years, and I can remember how in many nintendo groups or forums, FE was used as a derogatory example to attack Pokémon (even though in graphics it was just as shitty).
In fact, any minimal RPG that existed on Switch was already used as a throwing weapon against Pokémon for any particular reason, and there are numerous false equivalences comparing graphics and cherrypicking always the worst with the best, always in order to discredit Pokémon.
If that's not hate or rent free, I don't know what it is.

Honestly, I don't give a shit about graphics, I've always taken for granted that Nintendo is always mediocre in that regard and I'm only picky about Sony, Microsoft or giant publishers like Ubisoft, especially in Pokémon where the fun has never been based on how advanced it is in that.

What bothers me deeply is the tremendous double standards of other Nintendo fans of throwing shit only at Pokémon for things that can easily be found in other exclusives of the same console. In my opinion that is no longer criticism, it is aversion and revenge for a stupid national dex, a stupid Megas, a stupid Battle Frontier or any other caprice that they always repeat forever.
Those people with their "criticism" rather than improve the saga (which I repeat, for me it was already good), what they have done is to ruin and divide the fandom in two great pieces, creating a septic and toxic fossa where it's impossible to be cordial or positive.

In Unova they were the gems, then it was evaluated that if in Alola there are the Z-Moves, they become obsolete and unnecessary.
In Galar it was evaluated that if the Dynamax and Gigamax exists, the Z-moves and the Megas lose meaning, and trying to keep EVERYTHING in one Meta would cause overlap and redundancies, in addition to that in matters of lore it would not make sense that each region knead each mechanics of the previous one like a snowball. Think a little bit.

Meanwhile, everything regarding additions to the playable core, such as new types, division of special and physical moves/stats, nerfs, buffs, subtleties such as new weaknesses and strengths, and always better and more practical ways to train perfect pokémon and make them more malleable to avoid fucking grinding.
Those things have always been preserved, and it is something that Game Freak has been in charge of polishing game with game, it hurts that its something ignored.

The monastery hub demands too much time out of you, and the time you invest into it goes up the more units you have, and I was so drained that I quit the game two maps before the ending.
Not to mention the game is ugly, horribly optimized, and makes my Switch sound like a jet turbine when docked.

Graphics are not just tech, they're also art direction and effort, and BDSP severely lacks in both. Game-specific regional features, sometimes unnecessary things in a solo adventure like the natdex, and Battle Frontier which is literally only in the fucking 13% of all 22 major games. They aren't something that I consider strictly cut gameplay. When each region has its own characteristic features. And it isn't the best thing that these are repeated in each new region for obvious reasons (redundancy).
On the part of the graphics, they look pretty for what the saga has always been, to say that Pokémon doesn't have good art direction seems to me an absolute lie, or at least it is to discredit them for the simple fact of doing so.

Battle formats mostly useless or gimmicky, fun for a while, but very specific to a context of a single game
The Rental battles are more RNG and luckier than anything else, good for spin-offs like Stadium but not very important for main games
The PSS although it was good, Pokémon always changes its multiplayer interface with each generation, that some have attached to one that they like, doesn't mean that they have to keep it forever
DexNav can literally be replaced with other such things, the point is not to repeat things all the time
Super Training literally has its equivalents in posterior regions, which although executed differently, are just as effective, like SOS Battle Chaining
Berry Growing has simply been simplified because its a grindy mechanic nowadays, the easier its to get berries, the better
Secret Bases are something specific to a region and not all of them have to have it (what contribute to the general core?)
And the following pokémon have always been a whim of the fandom, which has been standardized, because before only a minority of games had it

And finally, regional gimmicks such as megas, Z-moves, and Gigamax, if they overlap and make the competitive secene a mess, since all in general fulfill the same role, increase the power, change the pokémon characteristics to be more broken, or make them make a one-time super move
The Dynamax and the Gigamax is just a synthesis of the two previous mechanics, and do something different
I dont see the latter as a dismal alternative in the least. Simply as an existing mechanic, molded to the style of the region in turn.

Its very curious how in this fandom if the games maintain their own conventions of their essence (never fix the foundations that are not broken and work well), they complain because "the saga doesn't evolve". And if they don't accumulate everything that they have added like a snowball with each new game, they complain that they "cut content".

It would be like demanding that Street Fighter keep every mechanic from their past games, while keeping all characters like Smash Bros Ultimate (just non-viable and unreasonable).

Also, like the Z crystals, which are literally the finite fragments of Necrozma's head, and which explicitly explain that they only work under the earth that is impregnated by the energy of said being, can they be in other foreign regions?

Neither of these things changes the fact that they're gameplay advancements. Like the other guy said, they're only considered "regional" because they were cut, not the other way around, so fuck off with that. The reason is that people want games that feel like they have effort put into them in some way. It doesn't have to be beautiful, it doesn't have to be perfect, but just something. Sword and Shield don't do anything to stand out from the 3DS games and they cost more. A lot more was put into HGSS as a remake compared to BDSP. And it's like all they want to do is make excuses. We can't have Battle Frontier because this, we can't have all the Pokemon because that and it wouldn't be as frustrating if it wasn't just excuse after excuse to add less content. Sure, game development isn't easy and you can't just add every single feature from previous games or it gets bloated but they somehow managed to do less than they did for previous generations. It's ridiculous.

That is very relative and even wrong, the Dynamax/Gigamax makes the battles more strategic and makes you think more about what the opponent can do. Since with the Megas, the simple fact of knowing which pokémon has to mega-evolve is a revealing factor that conditionate the strategies.
With the Dynamax everything is more unpredictable.

That there are people who dont like it aesthetically or as a concept (I do like it, giant pokémon are epic), doesnt take away their value as a regional gimmick for battles.

Jack of all trades, Master of none.. Many of the things I said are necessary simplifications, and no, to think that the Dynamax can coexist in a healthy way with the Megas/Z-Moves, is like thinking that the Black & White Gems can coexist with the Z-Moves, just absurd.

To say that anything that is a valid substitute is a regression is stupid. Not everything has and should not be preserved for no reason.

It's not unreasonable to gradually expand on mechanics while adding new ones. XY: Introduced 28 Mega-evolutions
SS: Introduced 32 Gigantamax forms (25 in base game, 7 post-added in the code next to the Expansion Pass)
If by ""design"" you mean the effort of drawing, sketching, devising, discarding, modeling and animating a new pokémon that is a "super" form of an existing one. So SwSh have done relatively the same (nd more) as XY without we dont include ORAS because one thing is a complete remake and quite another an simple expansion/re-edition.

The thing is to despise everything that is new and vilify Game Freak without analyzing what you are comparing to glorify Mega-evolutions.
I dont think they are allergic to work because it has literally been a studio that has never stopped working on more than one project at a time and that has TPCi and Nintendo behind waiting for it to release games to feed dozens of products and parallel brands that they orbit the main saga like planets around a sun.. In fact, its more correct to say that they always suffer from continuous crunch and pressure.

Sorry, but that Dynamax seems stupid to you is completely subjective to me, I don't see anything wrong with the concept of giant pokémon (or more correctly, with huge energy armors)

Just because they constantly put out products doesn't mean they're working hard or effectively. The alternative is that they're incompetent or unbelievably mismanaged, that's not any better.
I'm not talking about the concept of giants you fucking smoothbrain, I'm talking about mechanics. Unpredictability is supposed to carry risk as counterbalance. Dynamaxing carries virtually no risk, has almost no counterplay, no predictability, and decides the entire fight. A game without predictability cannot be competitive, it just turns into Mario Party. Nothing in Pokemon has ever been this imbalanced. It's a fucking horrible mechanic that at best should be reserved for story mode and unranked formats, like Mythicals.

We will assume that a specific ability is created for a mega, its only to change values, create a name and description. Nothing compared to the work of having designed the pokémon, modeling it and animating it.

If you call that effort. Then for the Dinamax and Gigantamax, 19 Max Moves (one for each type, 2 normal ones) and 32 G-Max Moves (one for each Gigantamax species except one that is copypaste) had to be animated.

Do you think animating 51 new moves requires less effort than "make individualized thematic stats and abilities"?
If you say yes, then I will know that you are just unfairly screwing and ignoring the studio effort.

Tell me one thing. Were unique moves created for mega-evolutions? Did all the 35 Z-Moves cost more than the 51 Max/G-Max moves?
I don't understand your logic. It's this kind of malicious discredit and non-recognition that disgusts deeply me from the community.

It takes designing and planning you hypocritical fuck. Same argument you made for Gmax. The point stands that they had to coordinate the entire kit around megas, while Gmax just add one secondary effect to a move. There's nothing particularly elaborate about Gmax moves, many still involve generic poses from the Pokemon, even Z moves had more going on stylistically. So fuck no they don't involve as much planning and design, like everything else it's more rushed shit thrown at the art team.

And to devise the Dina/Gigantamax, according to you, a design, planning and balance work wasn't done? Literally in an RPG adding any attack or action has an impact no matter how small in the metagame, and nothing is done randomly. The same effort in creating new moves or transformations, planning what roles they are going to take, is exactly the same for both the Megas, Z-moves, Dinamax/Gigantamax forms and Max/G-Max moves.
Do not pretend to sentence which one takes more effort in programming or not.

Also, I'm talking about animations as such, it's generally more difficult to animate anything than to change values so that a Pokémon has different stats and different abilities.
And even so, you get rid of that shitty argument that they are "non-elaborate animations" which is not true and they are a visual spectacle equal to the Z-Moves only without long cinematics as the characteristics used to be.

Here, the only hypocritical garbage that says slanders about Game Freaks is you, I at least gave you evidence in numbers, I have argued that designing a Mega is in essence the same as designing a Gigantamax.

Your numbers argument is fallacious, of course numbers are higher for content that takes less effort. Like I said, there's almost no gameplay design compared to Megas, far less visual design than Z moves, and clearly no regard for competitive balance. It's less effort by the art team and far less effort overall.
