Good question. I want to consider it gen 8 since SwSh is still the last new region, and BDSM doesn’t change core gameplay like catching pokemon—looking at LGPE—but I think in order to truly call it gen 8, it needs to be able to have all Mons up to gen 8 allowed to be traded into it, and iirc SwSh can’t trade with BDSM.

The only complaints I have are the permanently turned on exp share , lack of a plethora of good tm moves (luxray without superpower or play rough is trash) and the underground being oversaturated with statues.

Otherwise it's an improvement to the original.
