Hoenn ruined "competitive balance"? It didn't fix the Gen 2 stall metagame enough IMO. It took until Gen 4 for that to happen.
Gyms running three Pokemon is true I guess except for Winona and Wallace, though it's not true all Gym Leaders like it is for BW.
Cut content? It didn't have two regions, so that was a step down and the absence of animated sprites was a downgrade from Crystal, but apart from that there was nothing significant. I guess they should've added Moomoo Milk, Apricorn Balls, etc. Don't care much for day-night cycle, though the decision to remove the day-night cycle likely had more to do with the games being made with FRLG in mind (FRLG, being remakes of RBY, wouldn't have nighttime), since the Hoenn Games DO have a clock and time-based events. The remakes of RSE do have a day-night cycle while LGPE don't.
