anybody else miss the days of experimental, weird-ass spin-offs that went on to become great series in their own rights? pokemon ranger, pmd red and blue, colosseum if you really stretch it (I would hardly consider 2 games a series but let me dream damn it), I miss this stuff so dearly
I realize there's mobile stuff to supplement it now, but it's not the same. even while physical spin-offs still exist, they've been way sparser since about mid-gen 6 (post-PSMD, I'd say) and have never developed into new series. hell, most of them draw from already-existing spin-off series (PMDX, New Snap, etc) and hardly ever try anything new. feels like all the series just died with a whimper in gen-5ish, or got really bad entries that essentially killed them for a time (PMD: GTI, Rumble Blast (even though I like it I have to admit it's not great), Pokepark 2).
I miss them so much bros.
