Is there a reason to actually buy BDSP if I already own Platinum? It doesn't sound like there's actually been any interesting changes apart from minor QoL improvments

Having played DP, Platinum, and BDSP, I would say no, not really. Especially since BDSP is 60 dollars.

Gen 8 really has the worst overall games in the series so far

if you like you like online interaction then yes since you can't with platinum. I prefer not to use emulators on DS games because it doesn't have the same feeling as having the touch screen readily usable
