i disagree but only because i genuinely think the game is too faithful for its own good - i don't particularly mind only having the first 493 and not much of the post-DPPT moves, but the mon distribution is STILL total shit - for the first 2/3 of the game you're gonna be putzing around seeing the same four-five evolutionary lines between very similar-looking routes. sure, the grand underground alleviates that a bit but it's a side feature, and honestly i wish those mons were rare encounters in the main game as well
sinnoh is honestly just a mediocre region

Sinnoh also has alternate routes meant only for optional exploration. But it also has routes that are not completely linear. I think the region actually has the most connection to the plot next to Hoenn. The region layout actually matters to the story. "Mediocre" that anon says while he makes the 5000th thread saying X/Y are actually great because he wants to shit on BDSP

the region layout itself is fine, it's not linear and it loops back on itself a fair number of times which makes it feel natural
it's the actual mon distribution that blows major fucking chunks and seriously holds the region back as a whole

BDSP is a soulless remake, but because the base is from a good game, it is a more tolerable experience than SWSH, which is mediocre and bad overall. At least I can laugh at the shit they did in BDSP. SWSH is just fucking boring as hell.

i guess, yeah, but i don't see why they had to be restricted to a side mode instead of just being integrated into the routes proper. if they were on a side route/path that'd be fine, but being part of something you can access anywhere at anytime hurts the exploration aspect imo

To change a route's pokemon affects a lot more than just the pokedex. If certain pokemon are available, it removes the challenges and expectations of what pokemon appear before and after a gym. There is a reason you cant change every pokemon at the beginning of the game.

Honestly, those are my two biggest problems with the game. Those and the exp share. It just shows lack of soul.
I'm still loving the games. Already started a second playthrough, but they are cheap cashgrabs, absolutely.

I think it's not as good as Platinum, HGSS, B2W2, or Emerald, but it's better than pretty much everything else because, while it's too faithful for its own good, the foundation it's built on is still extremely solid, if it had all of the Platinum content and distribution (which is largely alleviated by the underground but still) it would probably be the best Pokémon game ever.
