What is this game's deal? 2 months from launch and I can't tell what it's trying to be. Is it an alternative to BDSP for "hardcore fans"? Is it an extra game like Collisseum or XD Gale of Darkness? Is it something different entirely, like Mystery Dungeon? Is it a shitty BOTW clone?

We desperately need a treehouse or direct for this game. The trailers have mostly been all style and no substance. We have scraps about the battle system, stat system, and gameplay, but lately they're emphasizing new human characters, regional forms, and fluff like another photoclub. Show us the game in action and how we will be spending most of our time. Until then I am just going to assume it's literally fetch quests and bland "watch growlithe use bite 10 times" until you meet the arbitrary requirements to unlock your next story cutscene and boss battle, which isn't worth it.

They've called it "A look into the future of the pokemon series" or something like that, I'm guessing it's kinda like a tech demo for gen 9 which gives me hope that, while gen 8 has been the worst, gen 9 may very well be the best

It is the next mainline game, BDSP is the alternative to legends for people who wanted a traditional remake. This is the true sinnoh "remake" that GF wanted to do but knew some fans wouldnt be satisfied with just that so they made some random studio do "faithful" remakes while they redesign and remake sinnoh however they want to. They also said it's a look into the future for mainline so expect some things to carry over from this to gen9

My main fear is that the things I might enjoy in this won't be made into staples for future Pokemon games. This could be a legitimate 10/10 homerun masterpiece on GameFreak's part and it'd still be soured if they end up just throwing out all of the stuff I like.
