In a work/reward society built around a want/need core, many within feel as though if they aren't spending the money (time) they warned from working, they feel they're wasting that time. And when you pair that with some level of mental illness, or even something as trivial as boredom, you get a complacent people with low standards that beging buying into things like brands that feed them familiarity and nostalgia from a feed bag. It's how things, such as Pokemon, that should've died or reformed /evolved a long time ago keep their rotting carcass afloat: the complacent and weak willed desperate for an escape.
