Possibly controversial opinion: Sinnoh and Hoenn are overrated by people who mistake player unfriendliness for difficulty.

The hardest puzzle in Unova is probably Chargestone Cave and it's actually fun unlike the "haha... can't see", "haha... stuck", "haha... I need 5 HMs" puzzles in Sinnoh

None of these are very difficult to get through. The fog section in the top left lasts seconds, it's that short. Snow route is also short. Bottom two are optional. Deep mud is easy to get out of and I'm tired of pretending it isn't. Bottom left is just trial and error.

In theory it should, but it doesn't, since Marley forces herself onto you, you can't surf when someone is following you and have to backtrack to catch Lapras, and the only possible path is littered with pointless double battles which take forever since her Arcanine is useless and faints all the time. There's also a pointless but mindnumbingly easy strength puzzle that exists only to waste time and make sure you brought your HM slave along with you.

Oh yes, Hoenn's creative map design includes having you surf in endless water for the second half of the game encountering nothing but Tentacool and Wingull every two steps, and using dive just to grab a shitty useless item.

The ocean currents in Hoenn aren't too bad. It's like any maze, you go one way and map out which directions at which intersections get you where. Same as the spinny arrow mazes in gen 1.

I've already played the games a million times you retarded faggot. The hoenn games were my first games and they hold a special place in my heart but even I realize how horrid the water portion of the game is and it's no different to Sinnoh (if not worse). The IGN review did not lie

I would love for them to make actually difficult games, but people need to stop acting like there was any point when they actually did.

Except when the "difficulty" is obviously artificial by blanketing the area in fog (sucks if you didn't bring your second HM slave), forcing you to team up with some NPC which prevents you from surfing, and littering the only possible pathway with double battles. Other than that it's actually a pretty simply maze with the simple yet mandatory strength puzzle. As a child you won't notice it but as an adult the poor dungeon design pops out at you.

Losing two pokemon or 8 divided moveslots is the exact same amount of restriction either way. 1/3 of your team options are gone as long as you're traveling in an area with HMs, which is almost every area.

Even LGPE and ORAS sold more than HGSS. BW were released so soon after HGSS that it likely cut into the sales of HGSS. Remakes and rehashes generally don't sell as well as new generations.
