It's too late. It would require a patch of mass proportions to fix every known glitch and even if they did the game is inherently ugly and based on the flawed versions. People aren't going to give a shit by January since they'll have Legends to play.

All the story/atmospheric changes would require rewriting the game from scratch with the Platinum changes in mind

Mechanical changes can be done with a patch
>make affection and friendship separate stats again and make affection gained by walking around in Amity Square
>make exp share optional again
>include secret base decorations again and traps
>allow for player interaction in the underground
>include GTS

Plus Battle Frontier DLC for no more than 5 dollars.

I think it makes sense that the two are being combined. They're both basically the same thing lorewise and in a future gen there will just be "affection" for the sake of simplicity (incorporating friendship mechanics like Return, friendship-based evos, etc.)
Though I agree there should be a way to turn off affection/amie boosts.
Maybe one day GF will implement a "hard mode" which turns off affection boosts, Exp. Share, etc.
