>>48885046>>48885027I don't think the games are the best reference for how a real Pokemon battle would go because they're way too "optimal", they're completely missing that element of you being a human and the Pokemon being living things with personalities and likes and dislikes. You're never actually shown properly feeding all of your Pokemon, your trainer never sleeps, your Pokemon are never tired unless they faint, the terrain you're battling on has zero effect unless there's weather present or someone sets terrain, ect.
When I think of a real Pokemon battle I think of all kinds of extra factors affecting the outcome. Maybe its really chilly out and your grass Pokemon moves a bit more sluggish that normal, maybe one of your Pokemon has felt kind of neglected lately and acts out and gets itself in a bad position, maybe you're in a tough spot and mess up and blurt out the wrong move, or your Pokemon mishears you, or your Pokemon doesn't move as well on pavement as it does on dirt, or your Pokemon just learned a new move via a TM but doesn't quite get the hang of it and misses, even if that move would have 100% accuracy in game, or something, I dunno, I hope you get the idea.
That's why I think the anime, for all its faults, better represents all the things that can happen during a Pokemon battle than the games do. Its not perfect, obviously, but its a better reference because sometimes those extra factors do take effect. The games are obviously a great reference point, but I just don't see being good at the games being a valid skill if we're talking about real life, real time battles past knowing type matchups and how strong a move is.
