Maybe it could be:

*Resists*: Rock, Ice, Steel, and Electric (These types represent humanities eras [that are also represented with the regis]. Rock age, Ice age, Copper/Iron age, and the modern days.) And why? Because Fossils came from looong time ago, long before humans existed, so maybe because fossils are so old, they have already passed through those eras and theres nothing new or astonishing for them anymore

They are supposed to represent different eras of the same species.
There is a Psychic/Flying regional Altaria who looks like a peacock then.

You're thinking of Kaprosuchus. I actually like this idea, kinda how back in gen 1 you basically chose between two rock/water typed, I feel it'd be the same with this idea, choosing a fossil that'd either give you a Kaprosuchus (fast special attacker) or a Sarcosuchus (Slow attacker). Would be really cool concept.

like Preserved Claw for the ground sloth and say Preserved Horn for a woolly rhinoceros

So I'd actually like to see more in line with mamoswine and yanmega, pokemon learning ancient power and then evolving.
All fossils suffer from having the rock type slapped on. I understand why but gen 8 showed we no longer need that. I'd be okay if they made new forms for every fossil, one that drops the rock typing where it was forced on. So you got a choice, call them "Full genome" forms or something. Can even give them new moves and stats

diplocaulus is my favorite prehistoric animal, and while the dragapult line definitely draws visual inspiration from them, an actual line would be cool
i'm not 100% sure what would make for a good counterpart though. maybe meganeura to keep with a swampy theme? though meganeura really isn't different from a regular dragonfly
