Is the rumor that the game will just randomly end your chain at a 7% chance true? I've been going after a shiny Starly for days now and I can't get my chain past 20-25, and even then getting it that high is an irregularity. What am I doing wrong?

It's no rumor, it's just the way the mechanic works. I don't think you're doing anything wrong assuming you're catching/killing every Pokemon to keep the chain going.

Shiny hunting using the Radar is a pisstake, 7% really isn’t that bad

catching the mon gives you a 10% additional chance and only going into shaking patches that are at least 4 tiles from you increases odds

maximum is still 93% tho

also do you need to get to the correct shaking grass in the least amount of steps possible

There are no rules except 4th ring out and catching gives higher chance to not break
shaking patches on edges, next to each other, anything like that from past gens dont matter

not a rumour, this is how the chains are balanced, otherwise itd literally be shinies as easy as red gyarados.

each ring of tiles moving away from the player gives the following odds of producing further shakes upon the encounter ending (if encounter is KOed):
- one tile: 53%
- two tiles: 63%
- three tiles: 73%
- four tiles: 83%

bump all of those by 10% if you're catching instead of KOing, meaning catching a pokemon in grass four tiles away gives the 93% of producing more shaking grass

crunching the numbers (a website did it; i can't do maths), you have about a 5.4% chance of a chain making it to 40.

The REAL question is whether the Poke Radar is actually broken, or did ILCA make it this way on purpose, to make it more challenging?
