Why the fuck would Water NOT be weak to Ice. Ice Pokémon freeze water. If water is frozen solid, that ruins its ability to be used as a liquid. Freezing also causes water to expand, and crystallize, causing great internal cellular damage.

Water Types are RELIANT on water, why the fuck would having their water become frozen not be a supremely negative and damaging thing???

Ice is a phenomenal offensive Typing, consistently one of the best in every generation, all of its issues stem from its defensive match-ups and shitty Type support. Making it strong against Water wouldn't do shit to make it better, it'd just mean Freeze-Dry needs to get reworked.

That's not equivalent to how it works in Pokémon. Ice attacks are frequently beams of coldness energy and even when they are attacking with literal snow/ice they are using coldness energy to create said snow/ice, their main way of attacking is literally by freezing their surrounding, it's not literally just physical snow/ice, they attack with coldness itself.

Okay take a bucket of water. Even if you dump an entire bag of ice into it its never gonna freeze. If there was a move where you locked a water type in a freezer for like 6 hours that would work, but id hardly call it super effective. Also its safe to assume water types are relatively warm as they are living creatures. In some extreme cases of low temperature water might freeze instantly but water in the mass of a pokemons size at a warm temp would almost never freeze in a short duration of exposure unless it was like absolute zero.

Honey, frankly your examples are shit. Ice mons LITERALLY attack with the power of coldness and freezing things, that is what they do. And this is a cartoony universe, it happens at great speed. If a mon uses ice beam on the surface of a lake, it will absolutely freeze a small section of that lake no issue. I don't care about this dumb argument, the fact ice Pokémon can very fucking easily freeze water should not be a question of import, they quite clearly can, rather easily.

What you CAN argue and what is a legitimate critique is if Water Types having their water frozen would really be considered weakening them. That's fair. I think it does qualify as weakning them significantly enough for it to translate as a weakness to Ice attacks. Ice damage from frozen water expanding is no fucking joke, and presumably Water Types all have really high body water content and would be very susceptible to this. And Pokémon generally "embody"their element, in my mind it makes sense that freezing water "ruins/weakens" it at least in a cartoony sense.

Like yea the ice type absolutely would not appreciate their coldness being taken away by the water warming them up, potentially melting them, but they also emmanate cold to combat this so idk.

The help Ice needs is for the Pokemon that are Ice type, not the moves. For all the offensive capabilities the type has, the actual Pokemon get hammered by Ice's weaknesses and their poor stat distribution to make up for it.

If you put a plant on ice, it melts the ice. If you put a bird on ice, it melts the ice. If you put anything above freezing temperature on ice, it melts the ice.

An Ice Pokemon's power isn't "ice exists", it's freezing stuff, and when it comes to things that are susceptible to being frozen, water is pretty much number one.

I completely agree Ice being good against Water would be much more intuitive and kid-knowledge friendly, but Pokemon's logic is that Water is the "neutral temperature" type since since it's not a good conductor of heat, and thus resists Ice as well as Fire.
Personally I'm more confused as to why Steel isn't weak to Electric.

As a kid I always thought ice was super effective on water because that's just about as obvious as fire being effective on grass, quite frankly with how big of a deal they put on the water/grass/fire matchup being really self explanatory and natural to understand it feels silly to have a type matchup where you have to learn the opposite of what you'd assume is true. Are there any other types like this? Always kind of bothered me that electric isn't super effective on steel when the reasoning of water easily conducting electricity should still apply.

They're not going to change up the type chart for existing types. More likely they'd add a slush type in between ice and water. Vanillite could be made an ice/slush dual type for instance.

People misunderstand this. Metal conducts (i.e., allows to pass/easily travel through the material) heat and electricity. But heat and electricity are not equal and do not behave the same way.

With the Fire Type weakness, the idea is either they're fucking outright melting the metal, or at least they heat the metal red-hot which the Steel Type does not appreciate because this is painful for them as the heat conducts straight into their bodies.

Electricity does not work like that. Electricity finds the path of least resistance. Metal shells PROTECT you from electricity, all commercial airplanes are constantly and relentlessly bombarded by lightning at high altitude but are unaffected specifically BECAUSE the outside metal shell conducts electricity AROUND the important fragile components within. Same with cars, same with faraday cages and lightning rods. Electricity is drawn to the metal and is then immediately dispersed hatmlessly into the ground

What sense would it make for any physical ice type moves like icicle spear, ice shard, triple axel or powder snow to be super effective against water. Especially considering that these moves don't even freeze except powder snow but that's a shitty weak ass bit of snow.
