Guy who made the video is a dork and annoying but hes right about Gen 2, it tries to do a lot but just turns out as a rough expansion to Gen 1 with very little good of its own that it added. I will say he ignored some good aspects of Gen 2 like the introduction of time and shiny pokemon.

Thise screenshots were from before the raid was caught, people went back and found them after. There would be no reason to fake when we didn't know it existed, and it lines up with their behavior in most threads, including this one. In fact they even did "leak" a fake anti-johto raid later once the board knew what was happening just as you said.

They're amazing for their time. Their design decisions are really dated, but they were perfect at the time.

The reason new pokemon are so hard to get is because they are suppossed to be rare pokemon that almost nobody has found before. That's why you didn't find them in RBY. There's a world building reason for it. Nowadays, we've all decided that's not how the pokemon world should work.

The level curve sucks in Kanto because it's meant to be almost entirely non-linear. They didn't think to do reactive level adjustments like modern games can do. Even the battle tower didn't do level adjustments. You had to get your pokemon to lvl 50 and put them in the box and carefully never touch them again.

Now we know better and fan patches exist to fix each of these issues. At the time, we did not know better and it was just amazing having all the new content.

Even through out the years when people started to be more critical due to newer games have in the technology to be bigger and better in certain aspects everyone still respected Johto/Gen 2 for what it brought to the series and it GSC was only really compared negatively due to HGSS doing Johto. Johto only became hates when Merrick and PChal started gaslighting they’re followers by the exaggerating and flat-out lying about Johto few flaws to make the make recent games look better.

Hence why it took a huge chunk out of pokemon's popularity and killed pokemania prematurely.
Between the far too rare pokemon making the game feel like a rehash, removal of content, delay of the anime which also featured johto pokemon infrequently, mediocre merchandise and so on and so forth there wasn't much to like about gen 2 in general.
