SwSh sold 21 million copies, surpassing in sales every Pokémon game in history except for Red/Blue and Gold/Silver. BDSP is the 2nd best-selling Switch game in Japan.

The Pokémon formula is powerful enough that even with terrible/rushed/lazy execution, the resulting games are worth buying for lots of people.

BDSP is an absolute disgrace, but for someone that's never played Pokémon, it's still a better game than many 60$ Switch games, which may be of way higher quality, but simply lack the Pokémon formula that makes the gameplay so addicting and exciting.

Same applies to SwSh, which besides being unfinished games full of diaper handholding for drooling babies, is still a good purchase for some veterans simply because of the joy of discovering 80 new species, a 1-every-3-years feeling that's hard to pass even if the execution could be 10x better.

The formula is so, so good, that sloppy execution still yields big sales, so the company finds no reason to increase quality.
