1 and 2 are obvious. They had planned to make these games before they even knew if Pokemon would be a success. Gen 3 cashgrab they made to capitalize on the unexpected success of the previous two gens. Gen 4 is a souless rehash of previous games. Literally nothing new added in terms of gameplay other than tweaking the battle system a bit with the P/S split. Gen 5 is when they tried to recapture the magic of the first gen and create a game aimed at older fans rather than kids. They went out of their way and made the best pokemon game ever. Gen 6 is meh. I mean they put effort into the 3d models and graphics and some new features but the rest of the game is half-assed and aimed at toddlers. Gen 7 is SOUL overdose. So much effort put into, so many things to do and a lot of small features and details that make the difference. Of course retards who rush to finish the game in 2 days and complain about cutscenes wouldn't get that. And Gen 8 is pretty obvious they don't give a fuck anymore. /thread
