People would also have a lot lower expectations for it, so they wouldn't care about the glitches.
If it were $20, I think it would be a huge hit, sort of like Stardew Valley.
Funnily enough, if you scrubbed Gen IV and its Pokemon from memory, released this game with all Pokemon branding and imagery removed, and only had the Sinnoh Pokemon, Pokemon fans would probably be praising it as a brilliant take on classic Pokemon that puts SwSh to shame. All the glitches and problems are way easier to overlook without having to live up to the series standards.
