I finished the Sinnoh fossil set with Shieldon a few days ago.

Nah, I already got Delibird earlier for the Mega Man X thing I've been doing. Maybe at some point I'll do Stantler in Altering Cave

I've been digging around the underground and got a bunch of Skull Fossils while looking for a Damp Rock, if anyone wants one for a hunt I'd be happy to trade some if you have a spare Destiny Knot.

I was the Shiny Giratina finder in the previous thread, I said I was going to find Rayquaza and I did just a few hours ago!
Funny story I forgot to mention last time: I found a shiny Crabrawler under some berries during my first Sun and Moon playthrough, I told my friend and he found one in the exact same spot so we both assumed it was a free shiny, years later I found out it wasn't but I always keep thinking that is is simply because I believed it for so long.

Dialga in BD, have been soft resetting for nearly a week. Was planning on going for all once off's as shinny. Now not so sure, the amount of SR's I've done has been taxing.

I've given up shiny hunting. I've done it for years, but this week, whole dicking around looking for nothing, I came across a shiny quagsire by accident. One of my favorites. I felt joy. Happiness. Elation I haven't felt since I was a boy playing Sapphire, and I came across a shiny doduo in the safari zone by accident.

Is hunting for a shiny satisfying? Yes. Is it excitin? No. I've learned it's the thrill of that out of the blue shiny that makes it all worth it. It's been a good few years in these threads lads, but I've come to accept a shiny should only come once every few years.

Playing Pokémon GO on the first Eevee CD a couple years back, one of the lads playing in the group mentioned he'd found one at one of the gyms. I was going down that end of town (rest were heading uptown) so went past for a shufti (I knew how shinyness was determined in GO by the way). Near fucking dropped when the first I checked at the gym popped shiny. Started slagging the group they should have come with for the free shiny.

Hunting shiny rayquaza.
Around 23 encounters in adventures so far, nothing.
I did get a shiny dedenne I guess
Was also hunting shiny salandit but apparently cute charm only works in wild encounters so out of every box I'm getting maybe one female so things are fucked.
I decided to continue with rayquaza and hoping I get salazzle encounters during raids.

So far in BDSP I've got Palkia after 716 resets, Spiritomb after 1929 resets, and Flaaffy after 450 random underground encounters. I've been very lucky.

if they didn’t fix the IVs I doubt they did anything with shiny charm and it was just a patch purely to fix the major exploited glitches
dataminers haven’t made a peep so I suspect nothing has changed, I just tried chaining myself to be sure.

the MM is as cruel as it is kind. The one I got before my 1530 egg shiny was obtained after only an hour and a half of egg hatching. Just keep at it and you'll get it eventually.

To unlock nat dex you have to just see all mons in the regional, to get the shiny charm by completing nat dex you have to CATCH the 490 or so mons (not including mythicals like shaymin darkrai celebi whatever)

there’s a bug with swarms sometimes that makes invisible objects stuck over the grass so you can’t run into them, and the swarm mons stop popping up. can be annoying since the obstacle can appear over a shiny patch
pressing the menu made the invisible objects disappear and swarm start popping up again, so you dont need to reset the radar and lose your shiny patch. was unaware of the simple fix just noticed it when I went to bag a pickup item

Shiny Nickit was from MM in Shield and Latias was in SP. She's fairly recent, actually. I caught her a few minutes ago. A friend of mine is resetting for Entei and is like 200+ resets, so I decided to start hunting Latias because I thought it would be funny to find a shiny before he did. Turns out it was funny. I found her in 34 resets.

I usually aim for the latest games, or a more suitable game if not. For example, I'm hunting Swinub in BD, but if I wanted Yanma I'd go back to gen VII (since I don't want no safari ball)

Worth adding that newer games have improved things, like Crown Tundra opening up the balls fossils can be in, or Gen VII allowing genderless pokemon to pass down balls when bred with ditto

so, the main thing you need is the number of rerolls. I believe non-charm masuda method is... 7/4096, or 1/585. It's then as simple as putting that into a binomial calculator and check the values.

Actually, you've got a 38% probability there. P(X = x) means the odds that you get exactly 1 shiny, which is 29%. you'll want P(X ≥ x), which is the probability that you get at least one shiny. Bottom one's the key.

just did some numbers.
one reset cycle of dialga/palkia takes approximately 47 seconds, this is from starting the game all the way up to resetting and starting the next cycle. this means that you will get around 75 reset cycles in 1 hour. that means, you can get 4000 reset cycles in about 53 hours. that means you have 61% of obtaining either of these shinies within 53 hours of soft resetting, an 85% of obtaining it withint 106 hours (8000 reset cycles), and a 94% of getting it withon 159 hours (12000 reset cycles). so im not great at math, but does this seem to suggest that your average static overworld legendary shiny hunt will take close to 3000 soft resets (thats around where your cumulative probability to obtain at least 1 shiny is around 51% or slightly above 50%) or 40 hours according to the aforementioned numbers. can anyone critique this?

The only things that boost shiny odds are masuda methods and shiny charm, then the specific game depending stuff like chaining or dynamax adventures.

The only gen where shinies can change things is gen 2 iirc

go by concentric rings
notice how both X tiles are technically 4+ steps away but would not count as a 93%
one of the X tiles is actually 5 steps away and still wouldnt count, whereas one of the checkmark tiles is exactly 4 steps away and would count
if youre just going by step count only it could be part of why youre breaking so early

To get 3 IVs you have to reset radar at 39 so 1/200 but having done many 1/99 resets and 1/200 resets there isn’t much noticeable difference between them. I don’t know how 1/400 feels tho…
If you wanna do resets at 38 go for it and maybe in a trophy garden hunt I would, but at that point it’s just one more 93% chance win

I would chain over breed every time. The benefit of breeding is you can choose nature, 2+ extra perfect IVs and weighted towards the ability you want.
I can get multiple 40s in a day and they result in multiple shinies to give away at the end, my last MM hunt took several days due to it taking 1700 eggs which turned me off to it. I would only breed for stuff I can’t chain

So I've been looking up on "brilliant" pokemon.
These have a higher shiny chance in the wild but only happens after you encounter 50/100/etc of the same.

My issue is that the sources I've found are not very clear on this, do I need to defeat one to add it to the encounter?
Do bred pokemon add to the counter?
Does running away add to the counter?
