Every other attempt Ive seen people make at a yeti-crab pokemon design just...doesnt make as much sense as a pokemon than good ol' crabominable does. Like others just try too hard

Really? Cuz I feel like its usually the face they get wrong in fan redesigns of crabominable. They make it look to sleek or dark. I feel his somewhat goofy looking face is suiting for a big brawler yeti.

Yeah, I just wish it was more crab-like. I do get what you mean with fan redesigns, they try to stray too far from the goofy look.
There is this ONE fan design I think did it perfectly, it's the only one I've seen that is a legit good compromise.

I dont get the hate coalossal. gets for being dissimilar to its preevos. I mean sure it looses the "cart" motif but it still clearly has a large cavity in its back to hold coal, its just more kaiju shaped. it can probably hold even more coal so its functionaly the same.
