The Distortion World and Distortion Room both share the same purpose, a way for you to get the Griseous Orb and to battle Origin Giratina. The only difference is that instead of having to traverse different platforms with nothing on them to interact with and to end in a hallway straight to Giratina, you just take the path straight to Giratina.

Whats the issue with this?

Still just a glorified hallway, if Platinum's distortion world was introduced in a modern game /vp/ would shit on it for having nothing to do, being an easy "puzzle" if you can even call it that, and having no reason to revisit except for one item.

No, because the interactivity in Platinum gives the player a level of agency in exploring it.
The one in BDSP is a glorified hallway because that's all it is-- just a straight line with nothing in it like pretty much every other location since Gen 7.

because of how it felt in context, it's a basic map but having to traverse a map that was distorted gave it much more character, the platforms move when step on them you walk on walls, swim down a upside down waterfall adding to the atmosphere, everything feels off flowers grow and randomly vanish as get closer, adding to the antipaction you feel as you slowly approach inevitable fight. Giratina also flying by again adds so much more to it, the area is more engaging to look at and interact with.
Just having a normal hallway is really fucking boring and way to overdone in these games now, only arceus did this right with staircase to him.
One is memorable the other is a generic hallway.

When I was a little kid, I thought the Distortion World was going to be like what the Grand Underground is today; or rather, something like the mirror world from A Link to the Past. I was highly disappointed with the final product. And I say this as someone whose favorite Gen is 4.
