While these days XY is remembered as having good online, being kind of bland at best, and arguably being the cause of modern Pokemon's problems, at the time the latter was on Gen 5's shoulders. In the fullness of time I think it's truer that Gen 5 is more like the previous generations, but it's a much more transitional game in general, it's definitely more of a JRPG like an anon said earlier (and as somebody who plays JRPGs for the gameplay that is in fact my shit). However, starting with Gen 6 it never stopped transitioning into different things, and I'm sure somebody will tell you how poorly that turns out. What's the percentage at now, anyway?
