Would you say BDSP is a good videogame on its own merits?
Would you say BDSP are acceptable remakes of DP?
Lastly, how does BDSP stack up against FRLG, HGSS and ORAS? I consider the Let's Go games to be reimaginings of the Gen 1 games rather than Gen 1 remakes like FRLG.

This is a tough question because the core formula of Pokemon is really fun, and its very hard to fuck up. The issue lies in everything outside of the core gameplay, from the graphics to the amount of content. I think if we pretend zero other Pokemon games exist, BDSP can be considered good. If we remember other Pokemon games, and other JRPGs exist, BDSP sucks ass.

Yes, however they're still bad Gen remakes because DP was one of the worst Pokemon games and Platinum was excellent, but the game deliberately avoids doing anything Platnum did, creating this awkward middle ground where you have a slightly more polished DP that's somehow still not the definitive version of Sinnoh.

Hmm. I don't know. I would say personally, yes. At it's worst it's a buggy version of D/P. Objectively that is still a game and subjectively I think it was good. I can see why people are upset/disinterested though. From all we've seen over the years this would appear to be the lowest effort remake.

DP yeah I guess. I really can't wrap my head around why they didn't remake PT besides PLA being out nearby. I can't think of any reasons that make sense but I'm open to suggestions on that.

I would say it ranks below all of the above. I don't know what people's gripes were with HGSS and ORASS but I know people love to hate them. I personally thought they were fine remakes.

Good question, here's a wall of text, it's my answer to your question.
I never got the chance to play through Sinnoh, at best I had most likely pirated copies of Pearl that stopped being nice at Wake, soon after that I lost all motivation to find a legitimate copy and BDSP reinvigorated my interest, but I'm too cautious of GAMEFREAK to just go out and buy a copy. As for emulation I can't even get PokeMMO to work on my own, I'm dumb as shit and would most likely just find someway to get an even worse version of the original Sinnoh games.
Also I only came here just to make this thread, I don't know the current state of /vp/, the last time I came here was to look at Grandma Dusknoir.

That's fucked up, dude, I can understand messing up PokeMMO but if you just emulate Platinum, that's about as easy as unzipping a file and making it run on a program. I think at the very least you should try to emulate Plat with the help of a youtube guide or something, and if you're confident, some mods too. It's really not that hard.

But yeah BDSP isn't a good game and if you have a Pokemon itch, just wait for Legends Arceus next month.

The real problem for me is the fact that it's it own game, i mean when FRLG, HGSS and ORAS came out, yo ucould access all regions pokedex, and play the remakes with "new" pokemon, and they were actually the latest game for ranked battles and/or the ones people were investing and training their pokemon to fight against other people, with BDSP it's not like that, you can't access new pokemon and there is no ranked battles.

This is a pretty good point too. The underground pokemon added almost nothing interesting to my game and it wasn't really even new pokemon I don't think there was any new ones at least (at the time of D/P)

YES, definitely. BDSP is probably the ONLY good Pokemon game to come out in the Switch/3DS era.

I think HGSS remains the best Pokemon remake ever. Then BDSP comes as a close second. Then, far behind these two, come FRLG, LGPE and ORAS.

Tl;dr: BDSP is a GREAT game, and a lot better than what most people here admit.

Graphics does not make a great game. LGPE is just Kanto pandering, at least FRLG was a necessary remake (really the only necessary one, imo)

If you have low standards. I can feel myself having grown out of Pokemon and think its the worst RPG series I've played nowadays.
If you've played just one Pokemon game since X&Y (for the novelty of 3D Pokemon on the gho) you don't have a reason to get BDSP.

Absolutely, but that's pretty much only because it's directly copying a fantastic game.

Not really, they ARE better than DP, but I wouldn't say they're at all as good as Platinum.

It's not as good as HGSS, but it's definitely better than ORAS and maybe better than FRLG? Around equal to FRLG I'd say. FRLG is a better "remake" but at its core I prefer Sinnoh to Kanto so that plays a part in my opinion on it.
