what I expect the game will also be even more buggy and outsourced to the same team that did BDSP but on a smaller budget the models will change again to look like this.

It's not so sudden, the difference between back then and now is that A)the fandom was a lot more silent(partially due to incessant bullying) and B)the critics were a lot more vocal. It WAS a new game, after all, so the critics were bound to focus on that before realizing just how bad things were going to get.
