what exactly am I supposed to like about this game again? It has worse graphics, features, multiplayer, and difficulty than the newer games while having worse replayable post-game than Emerald/Platinum/HGSS and worse exploration than the first three gens. I don't understand what this game does that makes people cock suck it so hard other than nostalgia.

I think BW2 are, objectively speaking, the games with the most content and Postgame content (second only to Emerald, maybe). The PWT in particular is one of the best things ever.

But the problem is, the game is set in Unova, which means the majority of Pokemon you encounter throughout the game, are Unova Pokemon, which are the worst designs in the franchise by far.

Tl;dr: A fantastic Pokemon game, overshadowed by a shitty Pokemon roster.

What does Emerald have more than BW2? Are you referring to the battle frontier?
I think Emerald is one of the better games in the series, but replaying it a few times, I really don't think it changes much considerably from RS besides the frontier. Don't get me wrong the frontier is great and I can agree that it makes the game, but that's really all it has going for it.

I think Emerald definitely has more content than both Platinum and HGSS, and a similar amount of content to BW2

I forgot about Trainer Hill, to be honest. Most of the other stuff was in Platinum (barring how the Frontier was a bit nerfed), which also had some post game quests/areas and way more legendaries to go after, sort of like BW2. Plus I think the execution of a lot of them was more refined than Emerald. Not to mention a bit less than half of those were in the original RS as well.
Still, thanks for the list, it's nice to have these all in one place.

Oh yeah, I forgot to address HGSS. It doesn't have all the same side stuff that Emerald does, but all the stuff you can do in Kanto surpasses Emerald's stuff.

Emerald's Battle Frontier is still the best post-game battleground. It has the most unique and varied rulesets, subsequent games only made things more and more simplistic. PWT is just regular Pokemon battles coated with nostalgia. It isn't even as good as the Battle Dome tournaments, where the CPU would choose its party based on yours.

Black Tower/White Tree is at least kind of interesting since it has a survival element like the Pyramid (where healing is limited). Probably the most fun that I've had with that game.

I'm probably thinking more so of the post game in general than specifically Kanto. There are all the legendaries, probably the best Safari Zone in the series, expanded maps and dungeons like Mt. Silver, Seafoam, Cerulean Cave, and Viridian Forest, and the gym rematches.
That said I haven't played HGSS since launch, but I remember finishing Emerald and getting bored pretty much right after beating Wallace, and I remember the postgame doubling my playtime the first time I played HGSS.

BW2 are also the games that suffered from so much backlash about children who disliked not using their bros in BW1 that it gives you a Lucario before the first fucking gym. Dex availability is far from being one of their issues, and there are still a bunch of good designs among the Unova 150, regardless of your taste.
