To make CHARIZARD look better. (or more precisely, to make shillmons or their own favorites look better). I'm not even shitposting that's the only logical explanation. Game Freak claims to care about all Pokemon but Dexit proved that's bullshit. Game Freak/ILCA/TPC just hates some Pokémon and considers them as stepping stones to make their real favorites look better. Charizard and Typhlosion are the most blatant example of this bullshit because they have the same fucking Base Stats but you only need to compare movepools and abilities to see which one is the shillmon.

The issue is that competitive pokemon is balanced in terms of OHKOs or THKOs, and the best tanks in the game all have some form of either great defenses, recovery, few weaknesses, or enough ways to mitigate not having access to the former that helps them wall. Corviknight, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn all get it, but none of them really NEED it to be great pokemon, it's just icing on the cake. Bastiodon has shit hp, meaning attacks wear it down quickly, it's got a lot of weaknesses, no recovery, and a pretty shit movepool. Giving it a ridiculously strong body press isn't going to help it remain relevant when it can't reliably get up stealth rock or provide any real support other than that if it does.

Probopass is also in the same boat as bastiodon, which is being a big slow target with great defenses and not much else. He's got magnet pull, which is great, except that he's weak to steel type, and if he switches into one of the aforementioned steel type walls in OU, ironically, they'd just body press him first and he'd have achieved nothing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against bastiodon learning it, but it's not like giving it to him would really mean all that much. Not when he'd basically just be an aggron but without enough attack to be able to use other moves effectively. And poor aggron is just barely hanging on all the way down in PU.

Actually I was thinking that one thing that could save these bulky but ironically frail Pokémon is making more moves based on their defenses. Body Press is a very good start, but I think they must do more like an Steel-type and Electric-type move based on their special defense. Personally I would see Probopass in this role because most of his canon skills seem more offensive than defensive (like the mininoses).

Probably the only reason why Bastiodon didn't get the move was because it was only designed to be a gimmick Pokémon as any other fossil Pokémon as well, while all post-game cross-gen evos from gen 4 were intended to be useful in battle.

However there are cases where Bastiodon got a move but Probopass isn't, like Metal Burst.

Shitty if true. But this IS Game Freak after all, but a Pokémon being a "gimmick" shouldn't justify shitty movepools or being fucked out of something it should learn.

I agree, but as you said, it's Game Freak and shitty ideas. Instead making a gimmick AND also good to justifies it they only want you to catch it and then save them in the PC box forever. I always thought that they should balance them all now that the Nat Pokédex won't be complete again ever again. Getting an useless Seaking every game will be useless if they don't buff it, for example.
