Just play the actual Mystery Dungeon games instead of the Pokemon crossovers, they're a lot better. When Pokemon gets a licensed crossover game, like MD or conquest, it trades a lot of gameplay quality in the normal series to shoe-horn in Pokemon mechanics.

They're on basically all Sony and Nintendo consoles and some of them are on mobile and Windows. I'd suggest looking up the series proper, it's divided into a few different subseries all made by the same developer and with the same gameplay.
