>>48922338From watching the gameplay vid just now, I'm actually extremely impressed. I thought it was gonna be a really cheap attempt at BOTW, but actually it's keeping the core elements of Pokemon while rethinking everything else, with influence from its competitors.
The things that still work about Pokemon:
>catching>collecting>battlingThese have remained all but unchanged since the Game Boy games, as everything else outside that continues to get more phoned in and unfun. From the looks of it, they've tweaked those three core aspects to be more engaging, while rethinking everything else, which is literally what I thought they would never do.
Observing Pokemon in the wild and catching as targets for NPCs is really smart, since before 99% of your Pokemon just sit in the fucking box and never make it to your team anyway. This retains the appeal of catching while making it more materially rewarding.
The only thing I'm skeptical of is the changes to the battle system, since what I've always felt was core to the appeal was it's baby's first RPG battle system, and making it more complex might make it less accessible. But still it'll be more fun for veterans.
